Inhuman synthesizers and drum machines all but kill the emotion that Dion summons with her powerful, octave-soaring voice.

A big-league affair that should push her to new realms of pop stardom.

Dion has a fluid voice but horrid material.

If there's a fault with this disc, it's that Dion isn't as convincing on the dance-pop tracks as she is on the slower stuff.

It's no accident that Celine Dion keeps recording all those movie-theme duets -- she's got the perfect voice for wide-screen romance, all unbridled power and telegraphed emotion. What she doesn't have, however, is much in the way of soul, which is why "The Colour of My Love" seems such an uneven effort.

Dion's latest album tries to do many things at once and fails at many of them.
